Runear Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 15, 2026
Runear ("we", "us", "the app") is a running app that lets you record runs, see who is running in your area right now, share routes, and run with crews. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have.
1. Who can use Runear
Runear is for people aged 13 and older (14 and older in Korea). We do not knowingly collect personal information from younger children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Profile: your nickname, and either an illustrated avatar or a profile photo you upload.
- Email address: the email you enter when you join as a guest, or the email Apple or Google shares when you sign in with them (with Sign in with Apple this may be a private relay address). It is never shown to other runners.
- Area: your U.S. county or Korean city/district. It is set from your current location on your phone (see section 3).
- Sign-in (optional): if you link Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique account identifier. You can also use the app as a guest without signing in.
- Things you create: crew names, posts and comments on crew boards, routes you choose to share (name, description, tags), reports you send and people you block.
- Settings: weekly distance goal, "Show my stats to others", "Hide me from others", and "Hide start & finish" for your routes.
Information created when you run
- Run records: start and end time, distance, moving time, pace, kilometer/mile splits, elevation gain, estimated calories, and the GPS route of the run.
- Place name: the name of the neighborhood or city where a run started, found on your phone. Only you can see it.
- Live status: while you run, the app sends your distance so far, moving time, whether you are paused, and the area you are running in, about every 30 seconds. It does not send your live coordinates.
Location
- We use your phone's precise location only during a run (including when the screen is off, so the run keeps recording) to measure distance and record your route, and when you set your area.
- To find your area, your phone turns your location into an area name on the device. The coordinates used for this are not sent to us; only the resulting area is.
- The route of a finished run is stored with that run so you can see it on a map.
Apple Health (optional)
- If you allow it, we read heart rate and active calories recorded by your Apple Watch during a run, and workouts you recorded with other apps that you choose to import. We do not write anything to Apple Health.
- We store only what is needed to show your runs: average and maximum heart rate, calories, and the imported workout's time and distance.
- Health information is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with third parties except as needed to run the service (section 6).
What we do not collect
- We do not use advertising identifiers, ad networks, or third-party analytics or tracking tools.
- We do not access your contacts, microphone, or messages. The camera and photo library are used only when you choose a profile photo.
3. How we use information
- To record, store, and show your runs, stats, streaks, and personal records.
- To show "who's running now" and leaderboards in your area, and your crews.
- To let you share routes and post on crew boards.
- To let you sign in again on a new device if you linked Apple or Google.
- To manage your account and contact you about it: for example important service notices, changes to these policies, and replies to your requests. We do not send marketing email.
- To keep the community safe: reviewing reports, removing content, and suspending accounts that break our Terms.
- To answer support requests and keep the service working and secure.
4. What other runners can see
| Who | What they see |
|---|---|
| Runners in the same area | Your nickname, picture, area; while you run, that you are running or paused and your distance so far (in the area where you are running); your distance today; your place on the area leaderboard. Never your live location. |
| Anyone who opens your profile | If "Show my stats to others" is on: your run history and stats. Run maps shown to others have the start and end trimmed by your privacy zone, and place names are hidden. |
| Your crews | Your nickname, picture, live running status, today's and this week's distance, and your posts and comments on the crew board. |
| Everyone in your area | Routes you choose to share, with the start and end trimmed by your privacy zone. |
If you turn on "Hide me from others", you no longer appear in area lists or leaderboards and others cannot open your profile. Your crews still see you. Your email address and account identifiers are never shown to anyone.
5. Sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only:
- With other users, as described in section 4.
- With service providers that run the service for us: our server and database hosting (Railway, in the United States), Apple and Google for sign-in, and Google Maps, which draws maps in the app (Google may receive your device's IP address and the map area being shown).
- When required by law, or to protect the safety of users or the public.
6. Where your data is stored
Our servers are in the United States. If you use Runear from Korea or another country, your information is transferred to and stored in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
7. How long we keep it, and deleting it
- We keep your information while your account exists.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. This immediately and permanently deletes your profile, photo, runs, routes, crew posts and comments, crews you own, reports and blocks.
- Guest accounts live only on your device. If you delete the app without linking Apple or Google, you lose access to the account; contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your choices and rights
- Choose what others see in Settings: "Show my stats to others", "Hide me from others", and "Hide start & finish".
- Turn off location or Apple Health access in your phone's Settings at any time (runs then cannot record a GPS route).
- Block or report other users from their profile, a crew, or a post.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it by emailing us.
- California residents may request access to or deletion of their personal information and will not be discriminated against for doing so. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA.
9. Changes
If we make important changes to this policy, we will update the date above and let you know in the app.
